Italian American Democrats endorse Tom Suozzi for U.S. Representative from New York

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (also known as Italian American Democrats), the voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party, today endorsed former US Representative Tom Suozzi as the Democratic nominee in the Special Election for New York’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House, which has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Tom has devoted most of his adult life to public service as a former Congressman for six years, County Executive of Nassau County for eight years, and Mayor of his hometown, Glen Cove, for eight years.

“We are proud to endorse former Congressman Tom Suozzi in this Special Election,” said Joseph R. Paolino, Jr., Chairman of the Italian American Democrats, former US Ambassador and former Mayor of Providence. “Tom’s campaign presents a great opportunity to elect an experienced, values-driven, Italian American leader to the U.S. House.”

“I’m so grateful to receive the endorsement of the Italian American Democrats,” said Tom Suozzi. “My father, the late Joseph A. Suozzi, was born in Italy, in Ruvo del Monte, near the City of Potenza, in the Region of Basilicata.  My paternal grandfather, Michele Suozzi, had immigrated to America first, followed by my grandmother Rosa Ciampa Suozzi, with my father, who was about four years old at the time.”  Suozzi continued, “I’m a first generation American who grew up in Glen Cove.  With my wife, Helene, we raised our three children there.   And I am proud and encouraged by the support of great organizations like the Italian American Democrats to work day and night to deliver for the people of this District, to make living here more affordable, safer and better.”

In endorsing Tom Suozzi, the Italian American Democrats pointed to his proven commitment to supporting Italian American values, such as the importance of family and giving back to the community.  In Tom’s case, that community extends from Massapequa and Levittown to the north shore of Nassau, to northeast Queens.   He came to Congress with experience in legislating and a deep understanding of the citizens of New York’s 3rd Congressional District.  And he thinks they deserve better. As Tom said very recently, “I delivered for this district before, and I will do it again by putting people ahead of partisanship.  Let’s reject the nonsense and get back to work!”
