We salute President Joe Biden for his decades of service to our nation. He has been instrumental in strengthening and expanding the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) to counter Russian aggression effectively. He enhanced and deepened our partnership with the government of Italy, promoting freedom and democracy around the world. Joe Biden truly lives the fundamental Italian American values of strong family, hard work, and service to the community. We believe one of his greatest contributions was bringing the first Italian American to the White House. As our First Lady, Dr. Jill Giacoppa Biden has worked to improve the lives of all Americans. We are honored and proud to call her our paisana!

Washington DC –  July 2, 2024 – The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (also known as Italian American Democrats), the longtime voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party, today endorsed Peter Barca for Wisconsin’s First District in the U.S. House.  The DCCC considers this a top pickup opportunity and has added Barca’s campaign to its Red to Blue program.

“We are proud to endorse Peter Barca to represent Wisconsin’s First District,” said Joseph R. Paolino, Jr., Chairman of the Italian American Democrats, former US Ambassador, and former Mayor of Providence. “Peter’s campaign presents a great opportunity to re-elect an experienced, values-driven, Italian American leader to the U.S. House.  He has always stood up for middle-class families.”

“I’m so grateful to once again receive the endorsement of the Italian American Democrats,” said Peter Barca. “My father, who was also named Peter Barca, immigrated from the Calabria region of Italy in 1921.  I was born and raised in the thriving Italian-American community of Kenosha and Racine. Additionally, I served as the president of WisItalia for 8 years. I am proud to be backed by the Italian American Democrats and I will continue to fight for Wisconsin families.” 

In endorsing Peter Barca, the Italian American Democrats pointed to the fact that Peter has been a member of the Kenosha Italian-American society for 30 years.  He led the organization for 10 years, and he remains a member of NIAF and the Sons and Daughters of Italy. He has proven his commitment to supporting Italian American values such as the importance of family and giving back to the community.  Peter previously represented Wisconsin in the U.S. House from 1993-95.  He served in the state Assembly from 1985-93, when he resigned after winning a special election to Congress. Peter has served in the federal government as the Midwest Regional Administrator to the Small Business Administration. Peter has also served in state government, as Secretary of the state Department of Revenue.  As Peter has said, “I’ve always been a pro-business, fiscally conservative Democrat.  I fit the district perfectly in my estimation.”  If elected, Peter has also said he will work to grow the middle class, defend reproductive freedom, the right to vote, and protect Social Security and Medicare.

For thirty years, the Italian American Democratic Leadership Council has been the national voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party — the national political action committee supporting Italian American candidates for Congress and major statewide offices, reaching out to Italian American voters for their presidential candidates, and promoting the appointment of Italian Americans at the national level. 

New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman lost his Democratic primary to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, marking the first defeat for a member of the House “Squad” of progressive lawmakers.

The result in New York’s 16th Congressional District is also a victory for pro-Israel groups, which backed Latimer with historic levels of spending during the campaign. According to ad-tracking firm AdImpact, the race was the most expensive House primary on record.

Bowman, 48, a former middle school principal in the Bronx, was first elected in 2020 after unseating longtime Democratic Rep. Eliot Engel, a pro-Israel hawk, in the primary. That race, much like this one, centered on accusations that the incumbent had lost touch with the diverse, but heavily segregated district, which spans parts of Bronx and Westchester counties.

Bill has devoted most of his adult life to public service as a public school teacher, New Jersey State Assemblyman, Mayor of his hometown, Paterson, and as a Member of Congress since 1997.

Former Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale won Tuesday night’s Democratic primary election for attorney general in a crowded field and will face York County District Attorney Dave Sunday, who handily won the Republican primary, in the November general election.

DePasquale, 52, was one of five Democratic candidates vying to become the state’s next top prosecutor. He was the only Democrat in the field who has previously held statewide elected office and the only one from Western Pennsylvania, with the rest hailing from the Southeast.

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo is focused on U.S. advanced microchip production — and keeping the chips out of China and Russia.

He is running to represent New York’s 16^th Congressional District, which covers Westchester County and parts of the Bronx. There are two (2) declared Democratic candidates, including incumbent Jamaal Bowman. Mr. Latimer is a progressive Democrat with a proven track record for fighting for Democratic values and bringing results to the communities he serves.

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (also known as Italian American Democrats), the voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party, today endorsed  Eugene DePasquale for Attorney General of Pennsylvania.  Although Pennsylvania’s Democratic Primary for Attorney General has five (5) declared candidates, Eugene DePasquale attracts deep support from voters across Pennsylvania.  In a crowded field, he is the only candidate who has won a statewide election, and he did so twice.

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council today endorsed Joe Salerno as the Democratic nominee in the Primary Election for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House. Salerno’s campaign has drawn notice for its fundraising, all-star campaign team, and now this latest additional endorsement.

“I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of the Italian American Democrats,” said Joe Salerno. “My paternal grandparents emigrated to America from Italy. My grandmother came first, arriving at Ellis Island and settling in Newark, New Jersey.”

Democrat Tom Suozzi won a hotly contested special election for Congress on Tuesday, the Associated Press projected, retaking a seat in suburban New York and offering his party some reassurance amid high anxiety about President Biden’s political vulnerabilities.

Suozzi beat Republican nominee Mazi Pilip to replace Republican George Santos, who was indicted on a charge of fraud and then expelled from Congress late last year amid revelations that he fabricated much of his life story. The race for New York’s 3rd District — long viewed as a dead heat — played out in a suburban part of Long Island that favored President Biden by eight points in 2020 but then swung toward Republicans, backing Santos by the same margin.
